One often speaks about the castle of Vouzeron, but the field includes/understands in fact 2 castles raised near a mound: the Old castle or Small castle, and, near to this one, the new Castle or Large castle, built between 1887 and 1893. This article treats primarily this castle, which is the continuity of the modifications made by a banker, the baron Eugene Roger, with the development of the commune of Vouzeron.
All starts in 1850, where the Marchioness of Massed, becomes at the time of its 2nd marriage with André Helene baron Roger: the Roger baroness. We are then unaware of by which advance the Roger baroness carried her glance on our village, but in any state of affair, on January 8, 1850 (either 2 days after its marriage!!!), it acquires of the field of Vouzeron near the marquis de Châteaumorand, that is to say 2750 hectares whose old castle builds as from 1846.
Realized under the mandate of the doctor Covering and by his care, the films on Vouzeron were transferred on cassettes VHS there are about fifteen years by association “History and Vouzeron-Sologne Traditions”.
Unfortunately this support having aged very badly, it was urgent to safeguard this local inheritance. With the assistance of several people, association carried out a transposition of these films on support DVD by adding to it the names of the identified characters and the places.
By his work, Olivier Messiaen is undoubtedly the French musician who the most counted on the level made up music after the Second world war. In this year 2008, one commemorates the centenary of his birth. But this man, whose homage is during this year very impressive: several hundreds in concerts organized by prestigious orchestras: Radio France, Philharmonic of Berlin, the American full orchestras (Los Angeles, San Francisco) or the Philharmonic one of Vienna was also a man of quality which had found in our commune a local richness: Nature in a pure state.
To want to present the church of Vouzeron, it is to present the village itself, since this one is closely related to the existence of this one. Indeed, it is impossible to speak about Vouzeron without quoting the text of the year 843, in which, by a donation made by a knight called Ambran with the abbey of Dévres, it yielded a dedicated church in Saint Martin's day, located in the villa of Vouzeron with the arable land which depended on it. At that time, the noble knights gave largely to pious works…
Among the crosses and martyrdoms which are drawn up in our villages, we can classify these testimonys of the Christian faith in three categories:
- Crosses of crossroads.
- Crosses of mission.
- Crosses of the cemeteries
According to the richness of their decoration and their attributes, in particular the presence of statues being next to the cross, they more often take the denomination of martyrdom;
The crosses of crossroads are oldest. Thus in Vouzeron, without knowing the exact date of their erection, we have a trace of their existence on the land register known as “Napoleonean” which listed them in 1825.
Vouzeron has six of them.
Already in 1610 a charter of the abbey of Saint-Sulpice in fact mention, then in 1723 at the time of the sale of the seigniory of Vouzeron “maitery and the Chartier mill”. To announce the difference of the orthographies met is the Chartier Mill or the Chertier Mill.
The river of Barangeon was, the only driving force to actuate mills and one should not be astonished to find of it ten along its course between Neuvy-sur-Barangeon and Vignoux. This mill with corn was replaced by a water turbine, its site is always visible. It was installed by the care of the Baron Roger, when he became heir, to dead of his mother, of the field of Vouzeron. The requirements out of water was considerable, it was necessary to supply the multiple bathrooms, the stables, laundries etc…, and the tank was insufficient, which brought the installation of its compressors, left of the Gandillon factories in Senlis whose only one vestige remained. This water turbine (called ram) was pulled by a paddle wheel. An underground drain led water towards the castle.
A group of dwelling houses, four or six following the time were used as housing with several families. First of all with the miller, the tile maker, their wives and children. In 1856, one counted according to the list of item of the inhabitants of Vouzeron; eighteen people. The last family left this site in 1956. Already the houses fell in ruins and the family which resided in these places moved with fur and with measurement of the outdatedness of the buildings. The foundations of these houses are always visible and the covered monticules of brambles and shrubs hide the ruins of them. This place, today is animated more only by the murmur of water and the rustle of the sheets whereas it formerly resounded of the noise familiar of a working population, plays of the children, and all this symphony which accompanies the life by the human ones.
